Don’t pretend to be something you’re not

“Don’t pretend that you’re something you’re not. When you start out, put all your energy into surviving. No matter how pathetic you feel or how people laugh at you, if you come back alive, you win.”

I came across this quote today and thought that you could benefit from it as well.

This quote was regarding a recruit going into battle. However, the same can be applied to our training and nutrition programs that we undertake.

When we start training for the first time, be it for a sporting or fitness goal etc. we tend to try to be the person who we want to be. We try to: lift big weights, run long distances, do 20 workouts in a week, change our entire lifestyle in just a few days in an attempt to achieve our goals as soon as possible. This may last for a short few weeks before we suddenly feel tired, lethargic, hungry, stress and all sorts of other negative feelings. The next thing we know, we’re justifying eating that one bad meal or missing a training session because we have no energy, which leads to two, three and eventually our entire lifestyle falls apart and we give up. Some months pass, and we are “back on the wagon” only to fall off again shortly after…

“Don’t pretend that you’re something you’re not”. The Metabolic Precision System teaches you that success is a process. Understand that it takes time to achieve a goal. You are not the person you want to be. That’s why you’re doing a program in the first place. When you begin your training or nutrition program, “put all your energy into surviving” – Think and implement in your lifestyle only the things that will benefit your goal and improve your ability to get there. Slowly implement little changes into your lifestyle each day, every week, over your training period and you WILL achieve your goals.

Hang in there! Be patient!

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the right technique to performing a squat on day 1, nor does it matter if people smirk at your lack of ability to lift big weights. All that matters is that you made it through that training session and you are now one step closer to achieving your goal. In other words “if you come back alive, you win”.

For all of you who have just started your training and nutrition programs, remember that it is a process and if you follow it, you will definitely get the results you are looking for. Don’t be disheartened about what you haven’t lost your 10kg after a week or haven’t looked like some guy from 300 the movie after your first weights session.

Show up at the next session, and the next. Implement the necessary changes in your nutrition. And you will get there!
